Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris/Gustavo Dudamel

Don’t miss the first UK opportunity to hear superstar conductor Gustavo Dudamel with his new Paris orchestra, in a French-themed programme that revels in life’s contrasts.
Tonight we travel through life’s ups and downs. Olivier Messiaen‘s Un sourire pays tribute to Mozart and his ability to smile in the face of adversity. The vivid characters of Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye juggle pathos with humour, whereas Haydn offers joy and spirit all the way. Ending on an emotional high, Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier may be the original rom-com, brimming with both wit and passion.
Audiences of LA Philharmonic and Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra have enjoyed Gustavo Dudamel’s rock star energy, musical integrity and force of nature for decades. He’s finally been lured to Europe to lead Opéra National de Paris and this is their inaugural UK trip. How will he approach these great works and build on the orchestra’s own French tradition? Find out in a special meeting of conductor, orchestra and repertoire.
