Inland (15) (AD)

A man sits in a peeling doorway at dusk

Mark Rylance is a sort-of father to haunted youth Rory Alexander in Fridtjof Ryder' contemporary folklore set in the mystical folds of England's forests.

A woman goes missing in the Forest of Dean, leaving behind her young son. Inland follows the youth (Rory Alexander) after he is released from a facility, and the parental figures who guide him as he muddles through life.

The debut feature from young writer-director Fridtjof Ryder, Inland is an modern ecological (and psychological) drama investigating the landscapes of England, their histories and futures, and the personalities that exist within them.

With hauntingly powerful performances from both Alexander and acting royalty Mark Rylance (who recently collaborated with Luca Guadagnino on Bones and All alongside Timothée Chalamet), who plays the father-figure rural mechanic, Inland is an important meditation on loss, landscape and love.
