Erland Cooper: Folded Landscapes

+ Scottish Ensemble & Guests

Erland Cooper beneath a sheet of ice

Hailed for his work celebrating themes of the natural world, place and time, acclaimed Scottish composer Erland Cooper performs his 4th studio album, Folded Landscapes, alongside Scottish Ensemble.

Revered for merging music with evocative storytelling and conceptional art, Erland Cooper pushes his connection with nature into thawing new realms with his latest album, Folded Landscapes, out 5 May 2023.

Developed in collaboration with Scottish Ensemble, a collective of pioneering string musicians, his new album was recorded using drastic temperature changes, from sub-zero to the hottest on record. Harnessing the sounds of a chamber string ensemble, piano, voice, harpsichord, electronics & field recordings, Folded Landscapes thaws over 7-movements and features UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, among other guests.

What results is an urgent observation surrounding climate change created as an immersive, musical journey from a cold, glacial ascent to a slowly thawing, burning hope. Four intimate shows are held in The Pit Theatre.
