In this early-evening concert, introduced on-stage by the conductor, François-Xavier Roth pairs two works that show Bartók’s love of folk music and the stories of the composer’s forefathers.
Bartók was well known for his research and recording of folk melodies, but though the movements of the Dance Suite sound like they are traditional folk music, they are in fact all Bartók’s own work. The ballet pantomime The Wooden Prince shows Bartók’s more Romantic and gentle side, with a story bearing the hallmarks of Hungarian folk tales that concerns two young people finding each other and their struggle to fulfil their love.
This concert is part of Half Six Fix, a different way to experience the LSO, with an introduction to the music from François-Xavier Roth, and digital programme notes on your phone or device. Grab a drink, take your seat and enjoy the music.
The performance will finish around 7.30pm. There will be no interval.

Booking fees

Mobility
Spaces for wheelchair users in row U at the rear of the stalls (up to sixteen, depth of row 180cm) and the back row of the circle (four), both with fold-down companion seats. Some seats in row S of the stalls for people with very limited mobility.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance.
Hearing facility
There is an induction loop in the concert hall. You can use this by adjusting your hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting.
