The Lark Ascending

Australian Chamber Orchestra

Richard Tognetti and the ACO portrait

Richard Tognetti sweeps the Australian Chamber Orchestra from inter-war England to the dark heart of the Viennese psyche.

On paper, it’s a mouthwatering programme – contrasting masterpieces by Vaughan Williams and Britten, framed by a string arrangement of Vasks's infinite Viatore and the tormented passion of Schoenberg’s luscious Verklärte Nacht. But as The Times put it in 2018, ‘Nothing about this orchestra is ever routine’.

‘And Richard Tognetti, leading from the front in every sense, embodies everything that makes his band special’, that same critic continued. If anything, that’s an understatement. So expect the unexpected from Vaughan Williams’s famous Lark, and experience the raw energy that the ACO’s superb musicians draw from this collaboration with musicians from Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

The concert will finish at approximately 9.10pm and will include a twenty-minute interval.

‘The Australian Chamber Orchestra has always brought a blast of fresh air whenever it breezes into London’s concert halls‘
