Soumik Datta + Malladi Brothers

Darbar Festival 2018

The Malladi Brothers singing

Experience an evening of virtuosic Indian music as Soumik Datta highlights the versatility of the sarod and the sublime Malladi Brothers showcase their trademark Carnatic vocals.

British Indian composer Soumik Datta has made it his mission to bring the sarod – a 19 stringed fretless instrument – from its Afghan roots into the world of contemporary music. Having described himself as a ‘slave to the instrument’, his innovative solos and boundary pushing output has led to collaborations with artists as diverse as Anoushka Shankar and Beyoncé. He is accompanied here by table maestro, Sukvinder Singh.

The Malladi Brothers, Malladi Sreeramprasad and Malladi Ravikumar, are a Carnatic music vocalist duo. They started their music education under Malladi Srirammurthy and Malladi Suri Babu, their grandfather and father respectively. Mixing together a wide range of existing composition with a flair for improvisation, what remains constant are two consonant voices in perfect harmony.

This performance will begin promptly at the advertised start time and is expected to finish by 10.30pm – subject to change.
