Alan Davie (1920-2014) came to world-wide attention through his development of a richly decorative, semi-abstract style of painting. His work shows a preoccupation with Zen Buddhism, myths and magic, deriving inspiration from a wide variety of non-western sources, making him one of the most potent image-makers in modern British painting.
