In our film she talks through the different Acts of this exhibition, ending with an invitation to the Hall of Meditation she has created in the gallery. Sasmita explains the significance of the various techniques she uses, their place in Balinese society and her collaborative artistic practice.
Through this exhibition Sasmita works to reframe Balinese histories and question Western, colonial views on her country's culture, speaking back to the oppressive Dutch colonial history of Indonesia. By placing women as the protagonists in her reinvented mythologies, she has created a powerful, post-patriarchal world.
