Barbican announces 2nd John Waters event for 10 June 2022
Legendary filmmaker and writer, John Waters brings False Negative to the Barbican Hall on 10 June 2022. Due to popular demand, a second show on the same night has now been added starting at 10pm, and the first show’s start time has now been changed to 7.30pm.
These spoken word events are an all-new, fast-moving, comic monologue about Waters’ career, movies, fashion, art and the urge to startle. Recently called the “Queer Confucius” by the French press, John Waters is eager to duct tape his artistically infected fans to their seats and give them an antibody-shaking event like no other.
Celebrating almost 60 years in film, Waters is a cult figure known for his bold, brash and transgressive work – favouring the queer, the outcast and the ‘trashy’. In his early movies he collaborated with artists such as iconic drag queen Divine, and later achieved success with Hairspray both as a movie and an adapted stage musical.
Author of ten books, these one-night-only Barbican shows celebrate the publication of Waters’ first novel, Liarmouth: A Feel Bad Romance, a hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime and family dysfunction. Liarmouth was published in the UK by Corsair on 5 May.
Produced by the Barbican
Tickets for the 10pm performance will go on sale to Barbican members and patrons on Mon 30 May and will be on general sale from Tue 31 May.
