The Role

The Barbican Communications team is looking for an experienced and motivated Communications Manager to work across our Visual Arts and Barbican Immersive campaigns. In this role you will report to the Senior Communications Manager – Arts & Participation, manage a Communications Officer and an Assistant, and oversee PR agencies and freelancers.

You will develop and deliver creative audience-focused communications campaigns to showcase everything the Barbican has to offer across our Visual Arts and Immersive programmes and support audience development. The primary focus of the role is on press and media and you will have direct responsibility for proactive and reactive media handling – driving positive preview, listings and review coverage and expertly spotting potential risks and handling crises. You’ll also work seamlessly with our marketing and digital teams to ensure communications strategies, campaigns and tactics are fully integrated across all channels. And you’ll build strong relationships with key stakeholders within your artforms including artists, curators and galleries.

Our ideal candidate will be confident working directly with media and a range of stakeholders. You will have demonstrable experience of objective setting and evaluation, and using results to further refine and improve communications plans. You’ll also be a dynamic and committed team player, and a confident and diplomatic communicator. A passion for the arts is important, and experience and knowledge of the visual arts would be a clear advantage.

Barbican Benefits
We offer a wide range of employee benefits, including flexible working, annual pay progression and an annual pay review, a generous pension scheme, season ticket loan and cycle to work
schemes, free access to museums and galleries, discounts on retail, healthcare and on-site cafes and restaurants. You will have access to Employee Assistance Programme, trained Mental Health First aiders and City of London employee networks.
