Beethoven Symphony No 1

Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique/Gardiner

Orchestra Revolutionnaire et Romantique

From the anarchic chords that open his First Symphony, Beethoven’s symphonies are more than just music: they’re acts of revolution.

‘The very opening chord of the First Symphony, which is such a shock, is Beethoven announcing himself,’ says Eliot Gardiner. ‘He’s saying, 'I am here and I have something special to say!'’.

There’s only one way to begin this journey, after all, and it’s apt that Gardiner has coupled the symphony with the opening and first act music from the ballet The Creatures of Prometheus: the story of the very first human to defy the gods and become a creator in his own right.

End-time to be announced nearer the event.
