Working with advanced thermographic weapons and border imaging technology, conceptual documentary photographer Richard Mosse created an immersive multi-channel video installation.

In collaboration with composer Ben Frost and cinematographer Trevor Tweeten, Incoming saw Mosse use military grade technology that can see beyond 30km, registering a heat signature of relative temperature difference.

Classed as part of advanced weapons systems under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Mosse used this export controlled camera against its intended purpose, to create an artwork about the refugee crisis unfolding in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Libya, in Syria, the Sahara, the Persian Gulf, and other locations.

Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Culture Ireland and with the support of the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation. Projections by Christie Digital. Co-commissioned by National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
