Wynton Marsalis Quartet

+ Headspace Quartet

Wynton Marsalis playing his trumpet

A rare chance to hear the powerful artistic voice of Wynton Marsalis in a small group setting, allowing the depth and sonic range of his sound to take centre stage.

Fresh from his appearances at the Barbican in February 2018 with his big band, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis strips things back with this quartet performance, featuring his brother Jason Marsalis on drums. It’s an opportunity to witness a true virtuoso in action, a showcase of a contemporary master of jazz trumpet.

Opening the concert is a group led by his friend, Clarence Adoo, whose career as a virtuoso trumpeter was cut short by a life-changing car accident. A founding member of the British Paraorchestra, he has become an active teacher and advocate for disabled issues.  Live, he plays the Headspace, a custom built breath-controlled electronic instrument which gives its name to the ensemble playing tonight’s short opening set.
