Produce fresh, raw, and relevant work in the company of others who, like you, are passionately invested in the written and spoken word.

Barbican Young Poets is an artist development initiative and community for those who wish to explore what’s possible for their poetry and creative expression. Through the programme, you’ll generate new writing, experiment with different ways of working, and refine a selection of your new work towards a publication, performance, or presentation. Barbican Young Poets is facilitated by internationally renowned poet and performer, Jacob Sam-La Rose, with special sessions from invited guest artists along the way.

Since 2022, the Barbican Young Poets anthologies have been published in partnership with external publishers. The latest anthologies from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts, can be purchased via the Barbican Shop

‘BYP is the first time I’ve been able to build a sustainable artistic community around me – poetry can be seen as so solitary and done in isolation but here it is a communal, almost spiritual practice‘
