Rzewski, Eastman & Hearne

The voices of Frederic Rzewski, Julius Eastman and Ted Hearne come from a society in flux. Each of them confronts mainstream assumptions about what music can – or should – say in a multicultural, late-capitalist society.

That means Rzewski’s dispatches from a prison riot and Eastman’s uncompromising Outsider minimalism – underground classics whose aftershock continues to define the contemporary US counterculture and in Eastman's case, provide a vitally important African-American voice in the 70s avant-garde.
