Whatever The Weather – Loraine James
Saturday 6 September 2025, 7.30pm
Milton Court Concert Hall
Tickets from £20 plus booking fee

Visionary London producer Loraine James presents a rare live performance under her ambient-leaning alias, Whatever The Weather— as she brings her deeply introspective soundscapes to Milton Court Concert Hall this autumn.

Known for her bold sonic experimentation and critically acclaimed releases on the trailblazing London label Hyperdub, James adopts Whatever The Weather as a space for gentler, more contemplative expression—exploring emotional states through minimalist textures, subtle rhythms and rich, layered atmospheres.

Her latest album, Whatever The Weather II, moves through hypnotic ambience, collage-like soundscapes and diaristic field recordings. James seamlessly crafts immersive soundscapes that invites listeners to pause, reflect and experience music that feels both expansive and intimate. The result is a uniquely textured and heartfelt sonic palette, merging analogue and digital methods into something entirely her own.

The performance at the Barbican focuses on the ambient and experimental side of James’ practice, shifting away from club tempos to explore quieter, more introspective terrain. Under Whatever The Weather, her music creates space for stillness and observation, using sound to reflect mood, memory, and environment.

GoGo Penguin
+ Daudi Matsiko
Wednesday 3 December 2025, 7.30pm
Barbican Hall
Tickets from £25 plus booking fee

Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin return to the Barbican Hall with a performance of their forthcoming album Necessary Fictions (20 June 2025).

Comprising pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Jon Scott, GoGo Penguin blend jazz, classical and electronic influences to explore the intersection of acoustic and electronic sound, incorporating modular synths, electric bass and expanded textures into their live performance. Their forthcoming release marks a shift in approach, focusing on personal and sonic clarity while retaining the rhythmic drive and improvisational elements central to their sound. A visionary project, the album serves as a powerful driver for some of their boldest music to date, brought to life in this brand-new performance at the Barbican that will contain special lighting and instrumentation throughout.

The trio will be joined by special guest Daudi Matsiko, whose intimate songwriting and stripped-back arrangements will provide a contrasting opening set to the evening.
