Barbican Art Gallery is dedicated to the presentation of exhibitions covering modern and contemporary art, design/architecture and photography. The Curve is devoted to the commissioning of large-scale site-specific installations by leading international contemporary artists. The Barbican aims to serve both artists and audiences and excels in the presentation of exhibitions that are thoughtful, curatorially ambitious and often focus on timely reassessments and inter-disciplinary practice.

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Technical Supervisor to join our Production team. The postholder will report to the Gallery Production Manager in all aspects of exhibition planning, installation and de-installation in Barbican Art Gallery, the Curve and our public spaces with an emphasis on planning, implementation and monitoring Health and Safety.

This role will be responsible for contributing to the highest standard of museum practice in relation to installation, and exhibition maintenance, as well as supporting the Production Manager in Gallery on scheduling, processes and procedures, risk management and workshop management.

Working with the Production Manager and with two other Technical Supervisors this role will share responsibility for supervising an installation team of technicians during exhibition turnarounds and maintenance.

We are looking for someone with good practical experience in producing exhibitions within public or commercial art institutions, and a knowledge of H&S legislation, best practice and experience of monitoring, enforcing and reviewing this in a gallery environment.  Extensive knowledge and experience of producing exhibitions to museum standards is required for this role.
