Meet the panel
Richie Brave is a Presenter, Broadcaster & Writer hailing from South London. He is known for his hard-hitting interviews and honest social criticism, which challenges people to think and reflect on themselves. Aside from his media experience, he has amassed over a decade’s worth of work in the community and uses this to shape and create engaging dialogue and interviews. Richie is host of BBC 1Xtra’s “1Xtra Talks” exploring the lived experiences of Black people across the UK.
Richie has interviewed the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Ryan Coogler, Angela Bassett, HER, Master P, Mr Eazi, Wale and many others. Through 2018/19 he regularly co-hosted the Sunday Morning show with Penny Smith on Talk Radio, exploring the tabloids, politics and debating current affairs. This versatility speaks to his ability to engage anyone.
Alex Rita is the Copenhagen-born, London-based multidisciplinary artist, DJ, mother and creative director of TOUCHING BASS and CALM ROOTS founder. A natural communicator, she has gradually built a cult following for her intentional practice, which spans music, illustration and sewing.
As a DJ, the combination of a childhood spent in Danish nature and over a decade in London have instilled a passion for the organic, percussive and deeply soulful. It's an approach which has brought her across four continents; from some of Europe’s finest dancefloors and East Africa to multiple tours of Oceania and Asia.
Beyond the club space, her work continues to guide listeners deeper into themselves. CALM ROOTS - which started as a regular, two-hour NTS Radio exploration of the meditative corners of her collection - centres introspection, rest and slow living through a synthesis of performance, DJ sets and holistic health.
Her practice has led to commissions for Lisson Gallery, Tate Modern, The White Cube, and We Out Here festival, as well as collaborations with Nala Sinephro (Warp Records) and sound therapist, Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne.
Alongside her partner, Errol, she is also the main force behind Touching Bass - the South London-based musical community, club night, concert series (at The Barbican), award-nominated record label, staple NTS Radio show (reaching over 3m monthly unique listeners) and curatorial/creative studio.
Her work has been recognised by the likes of i-D, Refinery29, The Guardian, CRACK, BBC Radio, Japan’s POPEYE and The Face among others.
Caleb Femi is an award-winning writer, director and photographer. He is the author of Poor (2020) and The Wickedest (2024). Caleb has directed TV episodes for HBO, BBC and Netflix, as well as commercials and high-fashion films and runway shows.
Lynda Rosenior-Patten has worked in the Creative Industries for over 35+ years and founded her company Maestro7 to work independently with creative practitioners/entrepreneurs internationally. She Co-organised the 10th International Conference on Carnival and Masquerade Arts – Rhythm of a People: Tradition, Connection, Innovation and Decolonisation, University of Winneba, Ghana (2023). The first time the conference was hosted in Africa.
Lynda is the Director of Destination Salone: Training and Creative Enterprise Hub in Freetown, Sierra Leone and is a former Director of the Notting Hill Carnival Pioneers Community Festival, and Portobello Pavilion, a site specific, temporary community arts space. Since 2014 Lynda has been a trustee at Ebony Steelband Trust (Europe’s biggest Steel Pan orchestra).
Lynda is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Carnival Arts (IJCA). and a founder member of the Arts Culture and Creative Industries (ACCI) committee at the Jamaica High Commission, London
Lynda was the first female Record Buyer of African descent at Virgin Records, and as “DJ Ade” co-founded Nzinga Soundz, one of the UK’s longest running, all women sound systems.
