Re-folking Viennese classics

Britten Sinfonia and ZRI quintet

ZRI Quintet

Chamber music by composers who adored the traditional music of central and eastern Europe re-imagined for orchestra and folk band.

After the toils of daytime, Schubert, Beethoven and Brahms would often visit Vienna’s famous Red Hedgehog tavern in Viena, Zum Roten Igel, to hear breathtakingly emotional and virtuosic folk music performed by gypsy bands.

Here, the quintet of clarinet, cello, violin, accordion and hammer dulcimer named after this storied venue joins Britten Sinfonia to bring out the folk influences embedded into the works of great composers.

The end time of this performance will be added closer to the date.
