The Room Next Door (12A) (AD)

Two middle aged women stare out a window over a cityscape.

Old friends reunite when one is faced with her own mortality, starring Tilda Swinton & Julianne Moore, from Pedro Almodóvar.

Based on the novel What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez, this is Almodóvar's first full English-language feature.

Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life.

After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.

Almodóvar has built up a canonical collection, from The Skin I Live In, to Volver, to his recent western Strange Way of Live with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

Swinton and Moore are in no need of introduction, both recently reaching new heights in their careers with astounding performances in The Killer and May December respectively.
