His Three Daughters (15) + ScreenTalk with director Azazel Jacobs, Carrie Coon & Elizabeth Olsen

Preview Screening

Three sisters sit on a sofa hugging each other.

We are delighted to welcome writer/director Azazel Jacobs (The Lovers), actors Carrie Coon (The Nest) and Elizabeth Olsen (Love & Death) in conversation with Barbican Curator Sonia Zadurian.

As their father’s health deteriorates, his three grown daughters Katie (Carrie Coon), Rachel (Natasha Lyonne) and Christina (Olsen) gather at his apartment to care for him. Old childhood tensions soon rise to the surface and the sisters begin to bicker, unpicking old wounds and falling into past dynamics. As Katie goes into overdrive trying to organise and control the situation, Rachel withdraws, and Christina just wants everyone to get along.

This emotional drama is acutely well-observed by writer/director Jacobs, who crafts a family dynamic recognisable to anyone who has ever shared caring responsibilities with their siblings. An incredibly insightful work, confronting the audience with moments normally hidden from view, Jacobs dwells on the deeply uncomfortable, producing something which is all the more powerful for it
