The Dead Don't Hurt (15) (AD)

A man is sitting next to a horse in front of a brand.

Lovers Viggo Mortensen and Vicky Krieps fight for justice in the American South in this subverted Western directed by Mortensen.

Directed and starring Viggo Mortensen (The Road, Captain Fantastic), The Dead Don't Hurt takes the atmosphere of the Western and flips the genre on its head. A surprising and gripping film about devotion, corruption, and justice, Mortensen and Vicky Krieps are astonishing as a devoted couple in love in 19th Century Nevada.

When the fight against slavery calls for volunteers, Holger Olsen (Mortensen) is compelled by his duty to fight for justice. Whilst he is away, Vivienne Le Coudy (Krieps, known for Corsage, Bergman Island) is left on their foothold in the desert alone. When evil comes knocking at the door, the couple's fight for justice becomes personal.

A stunning film that stirs up all the feelings in the Nevada dust, with The Dead Don't Hurt, Mortensen challenges his audience in a way that many directors aren't brave enough to do.
