Philip Glass Ensemble

Early Works – 1973 - 1984

The Philip Glass Ensemble look into the camera, dressed in dark clothes

The exquisite Philip Glass Ensemble perform some of the early works of the famous American composer and pianist.

Formed in 1968, the Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE) was created by Glass as a laboratory for his music, developing a performance practice designed to meet the technical and artistic demands of his music.

Many of Philip Glass's most celebrated works were composed specifically for the PGE and they have performed them in world renowned music festivals and halls over the past five decades. Tonight they perform a selection of his early works, known for their repetitive patterns and experiments in minimalism..

The artists of the PGE have a unique position in the history of music and are dedicated to passing on their legacy to the next generation of musicians and the authentic practice of Philip Glass's work.
