One of Britain's most beloved singer-songwriters, Gruff Rhys (of Super Furry Animals) brings his latest album Sadness Sets Me Free to the Hall.

Sadness Sets Me Free is the 25th album Rhys has made, as a solo artist, the front man of Super Furry Animals, one half of Neon Neon and psychedelic rockers Ffa Coffi Pawb.

Recorded near Paris, Gruff and his band Osian Gwynedd (piano), Huw V Williams (double bass) and Kliph Scurlock (drums) tracked the album in just three days. Backing vocals were added along the way by Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) along with additional strings and orchestration.

What finally emerged from these intense bouts of cross-continental activity was Gruff’s most accomplished and beautiful record to date, released in January to a string of critical acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Uncut, Mojo and The Sunday Times

Opening the show is experimental songwriter and sound-carrier Jane Weaver.
