Milton Court Artist-in-Residence 2023-24
Hailed for his 'trademark brilliance, penetrating sound and rich character' (New York Times), Anthony McGill joins us as Milton Court Artist-in-Residence for the 2023-24 music season.
Clarinettist Anthony McGill is one of classical music’s most recognisable and brilliantly multifaceted figures. In addition to his dynamic international solo and chamber music career, McGill is Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic – the first African-American principal player in the organisation's history.
In this residency, he joins forces with Britten Sinfonia in an evening of music and conversation centred around Anthony Davis's powerful concerto, You Have the Right to Remain Silent. He performs an all-American programme in his recital with Michael McHale, and shares his expertise with musicians from Guildhall School in an evening masterclass. In 2024 he returns for two concerts with the Kaleidoscope Collective, featuring Brahms, Messiaen, Coleridge-Taylor and Mozart's glorious Gran Partita with Guildhall School musicians.
