Alice Neel: Sign writing and fabric crowns

A tour of the exhibition design

Alice Neel: Hot Off The Griddle exhibition design mock-up. Courtesy Gatti Routh Rhodes.

Alice Neel understood the power of art institutions, saying ‘nothing could be more important than that one’s work be shown’. Join a unique tour with the designers of Alice Neel: Hot Off The Griddle.

Architects Gatti Routh Rhodes and graphic designers Wolfe Hall will unpack how they transformed the space to animate Neel’s vibrant and intimate paintings. They will explore the ways font, colour and construction interact with the works and play into our display of Neel’s ‘collection of souls’.

Gatti Routh Rhodes is an award-winning architecture practice with a diverse portfolio ranging from community buildings to social housing, set design to residential refurbishments. They were awarded Building Design’s Young Architect of the Year in 2019.

Wolfe Hall is a narrative and research-led graphic design studio that collaborates with cultural institutions to create publications, exhibitions and identities. They designed Beyond Bauhaus: Modernism in Britain 1933–66, Claudia Andujar: The Yanomami Struggle, and Wildlife Photographer of the Year 58.
