Eeshar Singh with Yashwant Vaishnav

Darbar Festival

Eeshar Singh playing the santoor - a flat stringed instrument. He is wearing a beige turban and blue shirt.

An afternoon concert revealing the sublime sounds of the santoor.

One of the finest young emerging santoor players, Bradford-born Eeshar Singh performs his biggest London concert yet. His musical maturity precedes him, producing a beautiful trance-like sound, showing why this is divine music for Sufi mystics. These afternoon ragas slowly unfold into phrases and pulses, washing away the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Taught by Harjinder Matharu, himself taught by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma who brought the santoor into Indian classical music half a century ago, Singh demonstrates a continuation of its story. He is accompanied by child prodigy Yashwant Vaishnav on the tabla.
