The Year of the Hare (PG*)

Part of Finland: Independence Day season

Film still from The Year of The Hare

An ecologically-minded adaptation of the novel by internationally renowned author Arto Paasilinna, about escaping the rat race for a more natural life.

In this modern tale, an dvertising executive gets back to nature, when he decides to take an injured hare with him and escape 'civilization' all the way to the Lapland wilderness.

Without resorting to preaching, the film advocates a more humane way of life, in a humorous way.

Sadly, this turned out to be the final film of director and great humanist Risto Jarva, who was killed in a car crash while returning home from the premiere in 1977.
