Director Kelly Reichardt returns with a gripping and glorious story of friendship and petty crime on the harsh frontier of the Pacific Northwest.
A loner and talented cook (John Magaro) travels west and joins a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, and meets a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune. Soon the two collaborate on a successful but precarious cake-making business, the success of which depends upon the secret participation of a wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow – the very first, and only, in the territory.
Throughout the film Reichardt paints an authentic portrait of harsh frontier life in the early nineteenth century, depicting the immense, unsettling quietude of rural America and exploring the very foundations on which the country was built.

Screenings are suitable for babies of 12 months or under. Up to four adults can accompany a baby, but adults without a baby will not be admitted.
