John Heartfield

The first major retrospective in Britain of the work of John Heartfield, the father of photomontage. 

Starting with his work as a Dadaist in the Twenties and ending with his stage designs of the Fifties, highlights of this exhibition were the famous photomontages he made in the Thirties for A-I-Z, the Arbeiter lllustrierte Zeitung (Workers' Illustrated News) alongside his book cover designs, many being displayed for the first time. 

The exhibition featured a complete reconstruction of the room in which he and George Grosz
exhibited at the First International Dada Fair in Berlin in 1920, and the room in which he exhibited his work at the International Werkbund Exhibition ‘Film und Foto' in Stuttgart in 1929.
