Serious Games
Art Interaction Technology
In response to the growing influence of video games and the internet on every-day life, Serious Games took a timely look at how artists were utilising interactive tactics old and new.
With the opportunity to experience virtual reality, make music with others, grow money balls, or become engulfed in flames, Serious Games introduced audiences to the cutting edge of digital technology. Artworks explored collaborations on the internet as well as interventions into personal histories, time and space.
Viewers were also able to enter the virtual reality environment installation Osmose, a space for exploring the perceptual interplay between self and world.
This exhibition was selected by Beryl Graham and organised jointly by Barbican Art Gallery and the Laing Art Gallery, Tyne and Wear Museums.
Supported by The Arts Council of England and Northern Arts.
