Shaker
The Art of Craftsmanship
—
The first major exhibition of furniture and decorative arts from one of America’s oldest and most influential Shaker communities, Mount Lebanon.
Shaker communities have contributed a distinctive style of furniture, architecture and handicraft to American culture and beyond. The 100 objects on display characterised the traditional Shaker values of simplicity, utility, order and fine craftmanship. Works ranged from pieces of furniture to smaller objects such as oval boxes and sewing carriers, as well as textiles.
