the americans. new art.
the americans. new art. was the largest exhibition of contemporary American art to have been seen in London for a generation.
Following a period of explosive activity in the American art world, this show brought together thirty of the most important artists to have emerged in recent years. It included both celebrated figures such as Tom Friedman, Sarah Sze and Martin Kersels, whose work has been seen around the world, and many young artists who were just starting to establish their international reputations, such as Ricci Albenda, Rachel Feinstein and Erik Parker.
Exploring the renewed interest in the hand-made among American artists, the show contained a large proportion of painting and sculpture. It also investigated the turn away from irony and shock and focus on making art that is both playful and complex.
the americans. new art. was organised by Barbican Art Gallery.
