JAM: Tokyo - London
Celebrating the creative activity of Tokyo and London, JAM was a unique opportunity to see the best in fashion, graphics, photography, music, media and art, including work never seen outside Japan.
Jam: Tokyo – London was a celebration of urban creativity from two parallel urban centres. Taking the musical ‘jam’ as a starting point, this exhibition explored the synergy between a diverse range of creative thinkers and highlighted new directions.
From London, the sophisticated graphics of Graham Rounthwaite, and the amorphous sculptures of Steven Gontarski were included. From Tokyo, there was reportage images of the city’s underbelly by Masayuki Yoshinaga, and Manga-inspired depictions of children by Yoshitomo Nara.
Designed by celebrated product and furniture designers Shin and Tomoko Azumi, the exhibition space itself was as cutting edge as the work shown.
The exhibition was curated by Barbican Art Gallery and produced in collaboration with Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery and in association with the British Council.
JAM was also on display at the Dazed Gallery on Old Street and the Artomatic Gallery on Great Sutton Street.
