Piotr Anderszewski plays Bach

Piotr playing the piano

One of the pre-eminent pianists of our time embraces one of the repertoire’s profoundest challenges, as Piotr Anderszewski plays a selection of Bach’s Preludes and Fugues.

In The Well-Tempered Clavier, Bach laid down some simple parameters, and transformed a set of technical exercises into one of the noblest achievements in the history of keyboard music. It’s a conversation that any serious pianist has to have: and Piotr Anderszewski has never backed away from a challenge.

If you’ve followed Anderszewski’s career since his triumph at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition, you’ll already know how his playing combines virtuosity, humility and a fierce intelligence. He can never simply play music: ‘I absorb it to the extent that it becomes part of me and I become part of it’, he says. So his encounter with Bach will be rather more than just a meeting with one of western culture’s most beautiful minds.

This performance will end at approximately 9pm, including a 20 minute interval.
