Warehouse x Barbican: Inside Out

photos of barbican staff employees wearing warehouse clothes
20 Feb 2018

British fashion brand Warehouse has designed a range of women’s clothing inspired by the Barbican. In this special photoshoot, Barbican staff and a Barbican Young Poet model some of the collection and tell us what their favourite space within the Centre is…

The collection’s botanical patterns are inspired by the Conservatory and textured fabrics mirror the concrete buildings. Warehouse director of brand communications Jill Gate said, ‘Our head office is only five minutes from the Barbican and we all spend time there catching up both for work and pleasure. Inspired by the details in the building, from the green spaces to the iconic concrete, our design team have created an exciting range for spring.’ See the full collection at warehouse.co.uk/barbican

In order of appearance:

Amina (Barbican Young Poet): My favourite space in the Barbican is the Conservatory. It's beautiful to walk around and take it all in. It's always busy when it's open to the public, but it's such a lovely space and you can find quiet pockets.

Maria (Assistant Project Manager): Although it's not open to the public, my favourite space is the art gallery roof, I think I have a connection with that place. You can literally see 2,000 years of history of London from that point and it enables me to switch off; it's great.

My favourite space is the Lakeside Terrace, because no matter which perspective you look at it from, it really varies. In the summer months you can see all the people out on the lakeside, soaking up the sun, enjoying the lake; it almost has a Mediterranean feel.

Isabel (Cinema Assistant): There are so many areas to discover - you're always finding new shortcuts and favourite areas to eat your lunch, or places to take your friends. I love being in a building that inspires me in that way.

Jo Athroll (Production Manager): My favourite space within the Barbican is one that not many people get to see, and it's standing just inside the door from backstage of the concert hall into the auditorium. On a concert night you can sort of peak your head around the door and see the audience arriving and feeling the anticipation of the concert.
