Sauvage

A vulnerable male sex worker yearns for love in Camille Vidal-Naquet’s moving feature debut, with a remarkable performance from Félix Maritaud.

Félix Maritaud gives one of the strongest performances of the year in this arresting drama about Léo, a 22-year-old sex worker in rural France who falls hard for fellow hustler Ahd. Life is tough for Léo – he is homeless, his health is deteriorating and the lure of drugs is everywhere – but he remains hopeful of romance.

'There is plenty of sex and nudity in Sauvage, but it’s Léo’s emotional nakedness, and the camaraderie of his fellow sex workers, that most disarms. While there are some disturbing scenes of brutality, this is a moving depiction of a marginalised man unwilling to compromise.'
