Explore a rusty, metallic sound-world conceived by award-winning composer Amir Konjani and inspired by eroded materials and concepts.
In his final Jerwood Composer+ Showcase, Amir blends instrumental innovation with performing sculpture, and contemporary concertante with his film music in a screening of the Oscar award-winning short film The Silent Child.
Experience Amir’s unique methods of acoustic spatialisation and ‘shadowing’ on piano and cello – sounds are filtered, have their directions altered, and single notes create two or more related tones separated by timbre and time, eroding as they are created.
Informed by real life events, The Silent Child tells the story of Libby, a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl whose lonely world of silence is transformed when social worker Joanne teaches her the gift of communication. Featuring Amir’s Braille-inspired soundtrack, The Silent Child won the Oscar for Live Action Short Film at last year’s 90th Academy Awards.
