Machine-Generated Poetry: In Translation

New Suns: A Feminist Literary Festival

A workshop exploring Anglophone bias in AI poetry.

Artificial intelligence can write poetry capable of passing the Turing test, as well as translate poetry across languages. However, there is often an Anglophone bias that is encoded into machine learning algorithms that produce such texts.

Participants in this workshop will translate the poetry of machines into other languages or ‘codes’, to explore how the translation process opens up questions around creativity, authorship and encoded bias.

This event might especially appeal to those who are bilingual and with some experience of translation, but all are welcome including those who only speak English.

Facilitated by writer Tice Cin, with poet and translator Khairani Barokka. In partnership with Tilted Axis Press and supported by the Poetry Translation Centre.
