Barbican announces OrchestRAVE celebrating UKF's 15th anniversary, and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Desert Slide

OrchestRAVE presents 15 years of UKF: An Orchestral Celebration of Bass Music 

Following the success of 2023’s award-winning OrchestRAM, drum & bass music returns to the Barbican Hall with a brand-new show: OrchestRAVE, an epic orchestral journey into the world of bass music and rave culture, elevated by mesmerising stage production. This event is in celebration of the 15th anniversary of UKF, the home of bass music and record label, produced by the Barbican in association with Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

With 15 years of groundbreaking contributions to drum & bass and dubstep, UKF has become a driving force in the electronic music scene. Known for its influential YouTube channel, vibrant live events, and acclaimed record label, UKF has reshaped the landscape of bass music.

In partnership with UKF, Guildhall Session Orchestra will be joined by DnB DJ Raiser, a percussion & rhythm section, and special guests, to perform many of the most loved tracks from the bass music scene, including music from early pioneers such as The Prodigy, trailblazers like Flux Pavilion, Pendulum and Nero, legendary stalwarts like Hybrid Minds, Koven, Camo & Krooked and Mefjus, right through to the current crop, including K Motionz, Goddard and Emily Makis.

Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Desert Slide 

Celebrated as one of the world's most versatile and expressive Mohan veena players, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt brings his Desert Slide ensemble to the Hall. 

Vishwa Mohan Bhatt descends from a 300-year-old lineage dedicated to Indian Classical Music. He is renowned for playing the Mohan veena - a unique instrument born from the modification of a western guitar with the addition of several drone and sympathetic strings. Bhatt’s prowess has been recognised at a national level, as a recipient of both the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhusan, India’s fourth and third-highest civilian awards.

Created and led by GRAMMY-award-winner Bhatt, Desert Slide stands out as one of the most accomplished and revered ensembles of Indian Classical & Rajasthani folk music. The group comprises five other exceptional musicians, including Rajasthani vocalist and recipient of the Padma Shri award Anwar Khan (vocals), alongside Pandit Salil Bhatt (Satvik veena), Himanshu Mahant (tabla), Kutla Khan (khartal/vocals) and Goram Khan (dholak). The captivating ensemble's unique blend of instruments creates a harmonious fusion that intertwining Rajasthani Manganyar folk and Indian Classical music.
